“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
This is one of my favorite passages of Scripture. It has helped me through difficulties on many occasions. If Paul called his afflictions “light” and “momentary,” how much more so are mine? And no matter how bad things seem, it cannot compare to the “everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!]” (AMP) that our trials are achieving for us.
The key is to keep our eyes on that which we cannot see. It’s easier said than done, but it is necessary if we are to endure this life filled with disappointments, heartaches, and sorrows. Don’t lose heart, but remember that your present circumstances are momentary and temporary and that blessed eternity awaits you.
