“As for you, be calm and cool and steady, accept and suffer unflinchingly every hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fully perform all the duties of your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:5
I have heard it said that acceptance of our circumstances brings us peace. The Apostle Paul seems to be hinting at this very idea. He tells Timothy to not only accept all hardships, but to suffer them without flinching. Often you see individuals flinch when 1) they aren’t expecting something unpleasant to occur or 2) they do expect it but are dreading it. So in order for Timothy not to flinch when he faces hardships, he must expect them to take place and not dread the inevitable but simply accept and endure.
How much better off we would all be if we took Paul’s advice seriously! Instead of complaining or asking “Why is this happening?” we would remain at peace and just continue to trust God in the midst of our struggles. Don’t be deceived: you will face hard times, so let us accept and endure them without flinching.
