“Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word. You are good and do good; Teach me Your statutes.” Psalm 119:67-68
I often like to paraphrase part of this verse as, “You are good and all You do is good.” There has been many a time that I’ve needed to remind myself of this Truth. Difficult life circumstances can sometimes leave you vulnerable to doubt God’s goodness. It’s so easy for us to forget the thousands upon thousands of blessings He has bestowed upon us the minute something in our lives goes sour. But if we just cling to this Truth, nothing will be able to shake our faith.
Notice also, that the Psalmist recognizes that his afflictions drove him back to God and His Word. Sometimes, hardship is the only way God can get our attention, so He uses it for our good in our lives. Have your current circumstances planted seeds of doubt in your mind about God’s character? If so, recall to mind all the ways in which He has poured out His goodness on you in the past and ask Him to help you cling to the Truth of His Word.
