“Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.” Isaiah 48:10
Silver is refined in a very hot furnace in order to purge away all the dross, but it appears God is telling the Israelites He has not dealt quite as rigorously with them, or else they would have been consumed. The “furnace of affliction” is referring to their captivity in Babylon, which He designed in order to purify them.
What is your “furnace of affliction”? Is it purging the impurities from your life? Are you allowing God to do that which is needed in order for you to become “perfect and complete, not lacking in anything” (James 1:4)?
