Truth Treasure: Practicing Joy is Good Medicine

“A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

Have you ever gone a long time without smiling or laughing? Once you finally do laugh, doesn’t it feel so good? Solomon was very wise, indeed. It is not good for us to constantly have a serious or gloomy countenance. When you don’t feel well physically you don’t necessarily want to smile or laugh, and refraining from these actions makes you feel even worse emotionally. It’s a vicious cycle that needs to be broken. So if you’ve been harboring a pity party, stop! Get your eyes off your problems and fix them on Jesus. Recall all He has done that gives you cause to rejoice. And squash that negative voice that keeps you from laughing and smiling. Go somewhere that brings back happy memories, watch a clean comedy, or smile genuinely at a stranger. Whatever will fill you with joy, do it today!
