Whether you are a newly-wed or have been married 50+ years, we all need a little inspiration on how to practically show love to our husbands. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Buy him his favorite candy bar.
What man doesn’t like sweets? If he doesn’t love chocolate, buy him a package of his favorite candy, instead. If he is trying to watch his diet or has to be careful with his sugar intake, purchase him his favorite fruit as an alternative. The important thing is that he knows you were thinking of him and you went out of your way to get him a treat.
2. Surprise him with his favorite meal.
My mom always used to say- and I’m sure you’ve heard it, too- “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” There’s nothing like a good, home-cooked meal (your favorite) after a long day at work. If cooking isn’t your specialty, order his favorite take-out meal, instead.
3. Let him overhear you bragging about him.
It feels good to be complimented, but it feels even better when you overhear people talking well of you. Make an effort to always only speak well of your husband. Even if he’s not around, somebody is bound to tell him what they’ve heard you say about him.
4. Tell him you appreciate him in front of others.
This not only builds him up, but it sets a great example for other individuals. Perhaps another wife will observe and realize she hasn’t thanked her husband for anything in weeks. Or maybe a child will overhear and decide even at a young age they want to someday show their future spouse gratitude like you’ve just shown.
5. Greet him with a warm hug when he gets home.
Nobody wants to be bombarded with a list of problems and complaints when they first walk through the door after working all day long. How refreshing would it be to instead be greeted with a hug that says, “I’m glad you’re home.”
6. Buy a book/magazine for him.
My husband loves to read, so such a gift would be a real treat for him. You know your husband’s likes and dislikes. Perhaps there’s something else you could get him that is more practical. A little gift that says, “I have been thinking of you and I got this just because I love you” is encouraging for anybody.
7. Wake up and tell him, “I’m so glad to be waking up next to you.”
What a wonderful way to start off his morning! I know those words would certainly put a smile on my face and I would probably remember them all day long.
